Creation

I would like to welcome everyone as we begin a new basketball season.  This year I, along with others in our Sports Ministry, will send devotions for you to use at your practices.  I hope these devotionals will help give some basics of a Christian life.  It is our desire to help everyone grow as believers.  We will build upon the basics of God’s faith, his goodness, compassion, grace, humility, his holiness, love, power, and his promises.

Since we’re talking about beginnings, this week’s devotion focuses on creation.  In 1891, James Naismith invented the game of basketball.  He was looking for an indoor activity to keep his students busy during the winter months.  He nailed up some baskets at the ends of a gym and made up some rules – basketball was created!!

Just about every sport and activity was created by someone.  That is true of anything that has complexity and order.  Parts don’t arrange themselves, rules don’t write themselves, and worlds don’t create themselves.  “In the beginning,” we are told in the first book of the Bible, “God created the Heavens and the Earth.”  (Genesis 1:1)  What a great place to start!  God, with his incredible and creative power, made this world and all that is in it.  Something as grand and glorious as this world had to have a creator – and that creator is our Heavenly Father.  That is reason enough to give our praises to him.
