Some words about our Open Gym Night…
Why: To share the love of Christ with high school aged youths and adults through playing volleyball and/or basketball. Our guest speaker will also come to share the transforming message of the Gospel. Plus, you could also be one of the winners for some door prizes!!!
Who: If you’re of high school age up to adults, we want YOU to come out! So make sure you fill out the attached player release form and mail it back to me by Friday, January 12th so I can get a head count of who will be playing.
When: Friday, January 19 from 7pm – 11pm. Please mail in the attached player release form. If you are under 18, please make sure your parents/guardians give their signature too. High school students need to bring their student IDs.
Where: Rush Memorial Gym in Gardena. 1651 West 162nd Street in Gardena.
We’ll be using 2 (two) full courts for basketball and 1 (one) full court for volleyball.
How: Basketball: - To start play: Shoot for teams – First 5 (five) players to make a free throw, then second 5 (five) players to make a free throw. Teams gather for prayer before each game.
- First team to 11(eleven) wins. All baskets count as 1(one) point. A scoreboard and whistle will be present to help keep score.
- Winning team stays for 2 (two) games at most.
Volleyball: - To start play: Match positions with another person who plays your position. Each team will have 1 setter, 1 hitter, etc… Teams gather for prayer before each game.
- 1 game sideout scoring to 15 (so that others who are waiting can play). A scoreboard and whistle will be present to help keep score.
- Have at least 2 girls on each team playing.
- Winning team stays for 2 (two) games at most.
Finally….Tickets are still available for the JEMS Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 3 at 6pm at the Japan America Theatre in Little Tokyo. For tickets call the JEMS office at 213-613-0022 and ask for Mary.
